Granite Salt Cellar

These traditional granite salt cellars are carved individually from stone gathered from the Tlacolula Valley quarry in Oaxaca. They’re carved by a master stoneworker who first shapes each piece with a disk, and then follows with intensive hand-chiseling. Each one is unique.

The cellars are best on the table or in the kitchen for keeping salts at hand. We typically keep a favorite sea salt in one hollow, a smoked option in the other.

The metates range vary in color from a neutral grey to very, very subtle green or blush depending on the block of stone used.
