Vintage Yanomami Basket no.1
A beautiful vintage basket hand-woven by the women of the Yanomami tribe in the Amazon basin. Woven-fiber gathering baskets, or shoto, are flat baskets used to store and serve items of daily life. Yanomami baskets, in particular, are prized for their quality and tight weave, and also for their strong abstract motifs. Each basket is decorated using masticated charcoal pigment to paint dots, waves, lines, and circles.
We have six available, and they nest, one within the next, wonderfully. This is the smallest of the baskets and has a patch of water staining (which you can see in the photos) rendering it not perfect, but still beautiful.
Measures 11 3/4 inches in diameter.
